CLEVELAND – A new, state-of-the-art culinary arts learning environment opened Aug. 24 on the Lakeshore Technical College Cleveland campus. Instruction had been taking place at a Sheboygan facility since 2012 when the program launched.
The relocation of the culinary arts program to the Cleveland campus allows students to learn and hone their skills in a newly constructed commercial kitchen custom-designed for educational purposes.
The move also allows for more convenient student access to vital college services, including academic assistance and financial aid, as well as expanded opportunities to become engaged in student activities.
LTC culinary arts graduates continue to be in demand as opportunities increase for professionally trained chefs locally and beyond.
The accreditation of the college’s program by the American Culinary Federation provides graduates with an additional employment edge as ACF-certified culinarians.
Kohler Hospitality and Real Estate is anticipating such a high need for professionally trained chefs that it is annually offering to provide up to 10 LTC culinary arts program students with paid work opportunities and up to 100% tuition reimbursement. Students must agree to work for Kohler in a culinary capacity for three years after graduating from LTC.
“We are excited about offering culinary arts students a state-of-the-art learning environment on our Cleveland campus,” said LTC Dean of Business, Technology, and Hospitality Douglas Hamm. “Having more convenient access to all our college support services is also a huge benefit to students, as well as the opportunity to connect with Kohler so early in their career paths.”
LTC culinary instructors, chefs Will Lammers and Amanda Weber, will help develop the 23 enrolled future chefs in the new facility, as well as additional students who will begin the program in January.
