Sacramento’s regional stay-at-home order hit restaurants during one of their busiest seasons: the holidays. Among the businesses that decided to stay open on Christmas Day for takeout only were Bombay Bar & Grill, Bali Kitchen and Hoppy’s Railyard Kitchen & Hopgarden. Singh said he is grateful for regulars and others who decided to change routine this Christmas by ordering takeout instead of cooking at home. “This year, we decided we wanted to come out and support a local business,” said customer Bryan Ryan. “Just enjoy some Indian cuisine.”While Singh said the restaurant is normally open on Christmas, they are especially thankful for their customers this year. “Merry Christmas. Scaief estimated that business is down 50% this year because of the pandemic, so she has her fingers crossed for 2021. “I hope everything is going to be better for the small businesses, we need some customers. We really, really need them. Hope next year will be more better,” she said. Railyard Kitchen & Hopgarden is open on the holiday, just like the brewery has done every year for nearly the last two decades. “It’s an opportunity to find new customers because others places are closed,” said founder Troy Paski. Paski said the pandemic has been “brutal” on business, especially at the Old Sacramento location where dine-in normally accounts for 90% of business. “Being here in Old Sac, you rely on a lot of tourism,” he said. “So with the occupancy down in the hotels, it’s a challenge.
