Michael,
Waxing cartographical, it would be interesting to have a map for each of these pictures, showing where they were.. but then everyone might go there..
eek!
Reading John Daniel's ROGUE RIVER JOURNAL: A WINTER ALONE. Do you know of Daniel? Joe Green is mentioned.. (Green took care of Daniel's winter garden before Daniel shut himself off got the winter in November 2000.)

Yes, I agree. (Why is it everyone else seems to be able to cmment in html and not me?) Smith Rock:

This picture was taken in the morning, towards winter, I think, judging from shadows. Just north of the neck, on the west side falling on the river is a tall thin shadow: I think that is the shadow of Monkey Head.

I hadn't heard of John Daniel before - I'll check him out.

Michael,
The John Daniel book is the most frank and true memoir of guys/men my age (born in ~1948). Or so I currently percieve. Just finished it last night.. you may be able to provide background for me after you read it..
The cabin Daniel stayed in is some sort of endowed writer's retreat near what I assume is the Big Bend of the Rogue.. (Battle Bar? Dutch Henry's Place?) The area is vague to me..
IMHO, a hell of a read.
