We found what look like Oregon red spotted garter snakes in small ponds while looking for tadpoles and other critters. Do they like the water?

Well, pretty much yes. Technically, it looks like it has quite a bit of fitchi (Valley Garter) in it which would make it an intergrade T. sirtalis concinnus/fitchi. Where did you find it? Generally in the Willamette Valley you find intergrades on the foothills of the Coastal & Cascade Range, then also there appear to be intergrades along most of Oregon's northern coastal region. You might also find these in parts of the Columbia Gorge & SW Washington. Cool Find.
