Ooh, looks like you found yourself a Northern Red-legged Frog (Rana aurora). These guys are pretty cool & can make a distress call as they flee into the water. Looks like this guy is in a pond or something with little star like designs. Sadly our native Ranids ("True Frogs") are on the decline, mainly due to; habitat loss, chemicals, & introduced pests. These are one of the few native Ranids that have held strong & can still be found throughout most of their range. Cool find

Hi M. Leppin, thanks for all the great commentary. I'll go through and add what data I can, mostly as to location. I'm an artist and a software engineer, and fairly ignorant of just what it is I am photographing.
This Rana aurora was on Staley Creek, about 3 miles from WNF Road 22. There is a short spur with some great solid rock carved by the creek.
