Thanks! I was on a section of flat and level basalt on Steamboat Creek, about 20 away from the stream backed up in the shade. More irregular parts up and down stream provided music, but the creek before me was quiet. I heard a splash, and then another before it registered, and a glance revealed ripples from the side of the creek. The wind was in my face, and I angled up slowly with my shadow off to the left.

The snake knew something was close, but I kept my profile the same size, and came in very slowly with many stops, until I was squatting right on the edge. The snake and the fish forgot about me. It was great!

I have a much closer shot, with excellent focus, but the sheen from the water bevel at the snakes head obliterates all the head's detail. I won't be posting it.
