(*) Wow! Wonderful! How old are the trees? They must live on such a very small amount of water.(*)

Makes me pine for the So Cal deserts. I loved growing up with them so nearby.

says they can get to be 200 years old. I didn't get very close or pay much attenton to them - the rocks consumed my attention.
One thing about the desert plants: they fight back. I am so used to the relatively benign plant presence in the rain forest, and touched or brushed up against fangs way too many times. Ouch!

Hi Bpaul! I really enjoyed my day at Joshua Tree. I would have a hard time if I stayed very long, I dry out quickly and really need the wet of Western Oregon to stay healthy.
I started asking motels where their water came from - the clerk at 29 Palms didn't know. That's a little scary.
