Dark Angel and THE V Pilgrim

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Arches National Park is a truly wonderful place, and the hike to to Dark Angel is a beauty. It’s also very crowded, for the park is Freeway Close and has many excellent easy and easily accessed trails. Getting off the trail is difficult, in that the ground is covered with cryptogamic soil that you really don’t want to walk on. It’s better to go somewhere else if you’re looking for the true backcountry experience.

This shot is from some rolls of ASA 1600 Kodacolor. The camera was all shut down and I was getting shutter speeds of 1/1000th and the ilk. I’ve never been able to get this cool grainy look again; it may be that like so many other rolls of film whose chemistry evolved after they sat for months in inclement conditions.

I like this picture because Dark Angel is indeed dark. In most the other pictures of dark Angel I see Dark Angel is all lit up.

THE V has posted it in a thread at Planet Think Tanks commenting on Dark Angel (SA)’s name.

Thanks THE V!

the Friday Ark # 101 post

Sabaki is determined to involve herself in dire muscidaemantic rituals. Kitties betray so well both sides of that last coin. But flies? Yuck. Well, better she than me. Let’s just buzz along, down Hwy 101, which is known as the Oregon Coast Highway here in the state where things look different. Who came up with that, anyway? Maybe it refers to the Oregon State Flag, which has a different image on each side. The kitties are of two minds about this.

Back to Highway 101, which will be disguised as Friday Ark 101, and arrive nearly Friday one way or the other, thoroughly ensconced little, big-like right inside the infinitely fractal tubes that lead to Modulator’s ongoing experience in animal husbandry. Check it out.

Meanwhile, this week, the metauniversally famous Carnival of the Cats #127 will be hosted at a safehouse sounding kind of place, Catymology.

Hmm, well, interesting list of books never finished and why. Earlier today I thought about Hopeful Monsters by Nicholas Mosley, which became a sludge of pretentious dreck after a few dozen pages. Sullied up my precious mental knickers.

Finishing books is over rated. Actually, the boundaries between books are overrated. How could you finish a delicious gazpacho like Campbell’s Bose-Einstein Condensed Soup of Books? You can’t eat just one.

Steeple Rock in Harmony with the Acapello Pilgrim Basshunter

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

I took this picture from the northern trailhead of the Bristow Prairie Trail. Steeple Rock is that wee point on the little peak to the extreme right of the picture. Here’s what it looks like up close.

Today it popped up at two different urls simultaneously: at Harmony Central and at ebassist dot com. basshunter has chosen it, saying ‘Like, wow man, it’s the Thursday edition of Basshunter’s “Relaxing Picture of the Day!!”

It’s scrolled off of the ebass page, but the harmony link looks like it’ll stay around for a while.

Thanks Basshunter!

Lady and Houdini both insist they weren’t really playing, and really, there is only one kitty here anyway. They are very good at being innocent.

There’s no need to feel innocent about Modulator’s stunning achievement with reaching the big one, it’s gonna be the Friday Ark 100! Yowsers! This is truly something. Mark your calenders and rent the tux two weeks in advance just to be sure. You can never be sure.

One thing for which there is a wellspring of desire for the comfort of surety, that is the expectation that the 126th Carnival of the Cats will be hosted at Red Peonies. There are eight contributors listed and the last post was over two weeks ago. The kitties are nervous.

Ok, I lost the segue logic, it was there for a few minutes. This comes next:

Is this like an Erdos Number? Did Erdos ever Friday Cat Blog?

There is also defined the Erdos Go Number, for the esteemed gentleman played that most excellent of games, Go. (That’s interesting, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen parens in an URL.)

I have an Erdos Go Number of 2, as I have played go with someone who has played go with Paul Erdos. I dish out threes for free - just ask.
