Road of Peas

I planned to leave Eugene about 1100, but didn’t actually roll over 30th St. until just after noon. Mt. Shasta is on the way, and the vista point where I-5 pops out onto the valley north of Yreka was the one photo op stop I had planned. The hour delay almost doomed my desires.Mt. Shasta is visible as you drive south towards Medford, but I passed on by. Crossing the border, and driving by Hilt is another view.

I knew I wouldn’t make it to the vista before sunset. I pulled over at a wide spot on the shoulder and grabbed the image of opportunity.

Great view, but not a great place to hang out. I cruised on. (When did the fruit check end.) The gloaming was fast upon the mountain by the time I reached the vista.

I thought this was it, but there was still light on Shasta when I reached the Weed airport rest stop, and it made for a beauty. I have posted it as the 5 Dec 2007 Middle-Fork post.

Now I’m in Redding. Tomorrow is the Big Valley and I’ll probably stop in Bakersfield.
